Did you know National Mimosa Day is May 16? That’s right, your favorite brunch beverage has its own national holiday. If you’re a mimosa-lover, celebrate National Mimosa Day with Coastal Kitchen at our Sunday brunch.
The history of mimosas dates back to the 1920s. It’s believed this beverage is named after the mimosa flower, which is native to Australia. Mimosa flowers and mimosa beverages are similar in color.
The mimosa was inspired by the Buck’s Fizz cocktail, which was a beverage served at the Buck’s Club in London. This early version of the mimosa was actually a fizzy beverage. By 1936, the mimosa was included in a recipe book by Bartender Frank Meier. “The Artistry Of Mixing Drinks” included a diluted version of today’s mimosa.
The mimosa became truly famous in the 1940s when Alfred Hitchcock popularized the beverage in the United States. Today, mimosas are one of the most popular brunch beverages across the country. The drink is a combination of champagne and orange juice, making it lightweight, refreshing, and flavorful. Mimosas pair perfectly with all of your favorite brunch foods, including eggs, bacon, pancakes, and french toast.
