Father’s Day has roots dating all the way back to Medieval Europe. Catholics dedicated a day to honoring fatherhood, paternal relationships, and fathers hundreds of years ago. Then, during the post-civil war reconstruction era, Ann Reeves Jarvis started the tradition of Mother’s Day, known then as “Mother’s Work Days.” After this holiday grew in popularity, Father’s Day as we know it today started during the turn of the 20th century.
