Stance & Grip 

Any game of darts begins with how you grip them and how you stand. It’s important to remember to stand with your dominant foot forward and align your body with your dart and target. It’s a simple matter of geometry—the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. Be sure to be comfortable in your position and attempt to balance your weight forward, but not enough to where you might lose your balance. 

Before you throw your dart toward the board or intended target, make sure that there’s nothing or no one directly obstructing your throwing lane. It’s essential that you do your part to keep the people around you safe. Next, it’s time to grip your dart. Be sure not to grip your darts too tightly, as this will have an adverse effect on your aim. 

Get a Good Set of Darts 

Believe it or not, many people who start learning to play darts give up early on. This has much less to do with acquiring any discernible skill and more with the fact that the darts they purchase are inexpensive and break far too quickly. This is a mistake that many beginners make, mainly due to the misconception that darts are a throwaway game that’s made up of inexpensive pieces. This is most certainly not the case. Having a quality set of darts means all of the difference between becoming a good player and one who never develops their craft properly. For beginners, we recommend an aluminum set. They’re not too expensive, and it’s an excellent way to start honing your craft as a dart player. And remember, it takes time to develop, and practice makes perfect!
